Memorial Services for Mrs. Willie Kate Etheridge , 80, of Columbia, South Carolina will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Turner Memorial AME Church on 1122 Monticello Street West Columbia, South Carolina. Willie Kate Etheridge was born in West Columbia, SC, on March 2, 1943, to Rosetta Chestnut. She was the oldest of six children. She was raised by her surrogate mother, Mrs. Ora Guess. Kate, as she was known to her friends, graduated from Lakeview High School in 1962. She attended South Carolina State and Benedict College. Kate had a long and fruitful career at the United States Department of Agriculture that spanned thirty two years, where she earned accolades and promotions for her dedication and hard work until her retirement. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband of thirty six years, Rudolph Etheridge; her son, Alex Lavelle Bailey (Stephanie) of Tacoma, WA; daughter Ora Elena Murrell of Columbia, SC; two step sons: Miguel Etheridge and Randy Etheridge both of West Columbia, SC; stepdaughter Janelle Etheridge of West Columbia, SC; two grandsons, Xavier Bailey and Travis Bailey both of Greenville, SC; sister Loretta Hemming, West Columbia, SC; and brothers, Johnny Lee Houser (Barbara) North, SC; Billy Chestnut ( Cassandra ), West Columbia, SC.
